Tennessee is not known for its surf. And yet here, in the summer of 1971, a powder blue VW Bus sits in a parking lot just past the "Welcome to Tennessee" sign - surfboard strapped to the roof rack, colorful curtains in the windows, one guy leaning over the top making sure everything is secure before they get back on the road.
