"Cruise Under the Gate"

Everyone has seen the Golden Gate Bridge. Almost nobody has seen it like this.

Shot from the water looking up and across, the iconic international orange tower and the underside of the bridge deck cut diagonally across the upper left corner of the frame — present but not dominant, a supporting player in a much larger scene. The vast grey blue expanse of San Francisco Bay stretches out to the right, the distant shoreline dissolving softly into fog and haze. The sky is overcast and quiet. The water is still.

This is the Golden Gate as seen from a boat — from below, from the side, from the water it was built to cross. Not the postcard view. Not the tourist overlook. Just the bridge doing what it has always done, rising out of the bay on a foggy day, indifferent and magnificent.

Some landmarks deserve to be seen from a different angle. This one earns it.
